Militia groups moving to help secure Texas-Mexico border

On Saturday, the Brownsville Herald reported that a coalition of "Patriot" groups has put out a call for supporters to go to the Texas-Mexico border for an operation called "Secure our Border- Laredo."

According to spokeswoman Denice Freeman, the operation is a call for civilian militia members -- both armed and unarmed -- to guard private property in Texas locations like Laredo where owners feel threatened by “drug cartels and from gangs, particularly the MS-13 gangs,” a Salvadoran-based gang considered among the most dangerous in the country by law enforcement.

Freeman also said militia members will become more visible in border communities over the coming days. She also said the group's commander, Chip Davis, is warning members against using violent means.

"This is not a ‘go-in-guns-blazing’ kind of thing,” Freeman said. “This will be handled with the utmost professionalism and security and safety for everyone involved.”

But Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said he doesn't want the militia in the Rio Grande Valley.

“We don’t need their services on our border. If we ever did I’m sure we have enough good people in Hidalgo County that I can call up,” he said.

On Friday, the Free Republic's Jim Robinson posted a notice that militia members from California were joining up with Texas groups to help defend the border. Robinson said the groups are also rallying to "protest Obama's lawless open borders policies and to rally support for Governor Perry to officially call out Guard units and Texas militia units at his disposal to defend the border."

"Ok, this is just the germination of the plan," he posted.

"Lawsuits will not cut it," Robinson added. "The invasion is happening now. Action must be taken NOW!"

Recently, the Obama administration admitted it is releasing illegal immigrants in the interior of the United States. The administration, however, has refused to say exactly how many illegal immigrants it has set loose on American citizens.

In a telephone interview with Newsmax TV, Barbie Rogers, founder of the Patriots Information Hotline, said militia members and other concerned citizens are heading to Laredo to become a human blockade against illegal immigration.

“This will continue for days and weeks to come” and spread “to other points” along the border, Rogers told Newsmax. Rogers did not give an exact head count and did not specify if the participants would be armed or not.

“We are trying to contact every person and every patriot in the United States to go down and help do something the government should have done a long time ago,” Rogers said. As for concerns the group may be armed, Rogers said those participating in the human blockade would follow the same rules of engagement used by Bundy Ranch protesters in April.

“Just like at the Bundy ranch, there will be no patriot out there on that line that will fire first,” Rogers said.
