Military writers meet in Dayton, Ohio

The Military Writers Society of America held its annual conference this weekend at the Holiday Inn Fairborn in Dayton. Attendees included active duty military, veterans and writers of military history.

Outgoing president, Joyce Faulkner, spoke of the mission of the organization: education, the preservation of history and writing for healing. Many sessions addressing these goals attracted the members. Several publishers, radio personalities and marketing experts presented sessions and met with individual authors.

The conference concluded with an awards banquet honoring writers who have excelled in their craft. Awards were given for multiple genres of books. Mike Angley was awarded the "Author of the Year" designation. For the next twelve months, he will represent the organization. Last year's "Author of the Year," Jack Woodville London, passed the torch on to Angley.

Newly installed officers are: Dwight Zimmerman, president; Leila Levinson, Vice-President; Father Ron Camarda, Secretary; and Louis Intres, Treasurer.
