Military personnel and families get free museum admission

Military personnel and their families can get free admission to several Austin museums, as well as more than 750 other museums around the country, this summer thanks to the Blue Star Museums initiative.

The Blue Star Museums initiative is a partnership among the non-profit organization Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts and participating museums. The program provides free admission to participating museums for active-duty military personnel and their immediate families. The program began on Memorial Day, May 24, 2010 and runs through Labor Day, September 6, 2010. Immediate family members include spouses, children and siblings.

Participating Austin museums include:
Austin Museum of Art
Neill-Cochran House Museum
Texas Historical Commission
Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum

For a full list of participating museums, visit www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums. For more information about the initiative, including accepted military IDs, visit the Blue Star Museums Initiative FAQ page.
