Five Orange County museums are offering free admission to military families until Labor Day. The museums are Blue Star Museums, which is a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Defense and Blue Star Families, an organization that advocates for military families of all rank and service area.
Buena Park Historical Society Museum, Bowers Museum, Laguna Art Museum, Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach (Free admission to this does not include Pageant of the Masters) and Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center are participating Blue Star Museums in Orange County. Muzeo is also extending the offer to retired military and veterans but will close Aug. 31 to install a new exhibit. Orange County Museum of Art is listed on the Blue Star Museums Web site but will be closed until Sept. 7.
Up to five family members are able to receive admission to the museum in addition to the service member. The service member does not need to be present to take advantage of the free admission and family can include uncles, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. There is also no limit on the amount of museums families can visit until Sept. 1.
Families must bring one of the following cards with them: DD Form 1173 ID or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card or a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC). The offer is also extended to members of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps.
Blue Star Families offers many services, including discounts to local theatres, donating books for children to base libraries, employment networking opportunities for military spouses and others. They also work with the Department of Defense and federal and state government to advocate many issues dealing with military families.
