Miley seen without her engagement ring, but was it just an immature stunt?

In late December, an Instagram photo was unearthed that seemed to show Miley Cyrus wearing a wedding ring, but my, have times have changed. Cyrus was seen late Wednesday night, not just sans wedding ring, but sans her engagement ring, heating up the recent rumors of a split.

Ah, how the images turn, and the stomach churns.

To be clear, it seemed that Cyrus was trying to mask the missing ring somewhat. When photographed outside of a Los Angeles recording studio late Wednesday night, Cyrus, tried to cover her face to avoid cameras, but instead displayed two rings on her engagement finger that were neither wedding nor engagement, and certainly not the engagement ring that fiance Liam Hemsworth gave her when he proposed last May.

A source close to Cyrus said, "Miley still wants to get married," but at the same time added that things are not all sweetness and light, saying "Miley and Liam have had some problems that they are working through."

The source went on, saying the Cyrus and Hemsworth "have always had a very passionate relationship. They have a very strong physical attraction, but have very different personalities and backgrounds. This makes their relationship very complicated."

Hemsworth is 23; Cyrus is 20; their youth -- they began dating on the set of "The Last Song" in June 2009, when Hemsworth was 19 and Cyrus 16. Their youth has been pointed out by some as a possible risk factor in their relationship, and the source's statements seem to point to "the physical" as being what drew them together, and that the realities of an "adult relationship" are sinking in.

However, not all see the lack of a ring as a statement by Miley, or at least, not the statement most believe. An insider told Perez Hilton: “She knew that it was going to cause a scene, as much as she says she hates all the talk, she actually loves it because it will get Liam to see these pictures and have him see her more. She is playing games against the media and Liam.”

Hilton was not impressed by the immaturity of the rumored stunt, saying, "Gurl, that definitely doesn’t sound too mature of you!! Not only that, but it’s never cool to play with someone’s heart like that! Even if they're playing with yours."

Still, Hilton said they do have problems. If true, they could be solved. He said that it revolves around their schedules, which have been keeping them apart.
