Miley Cyrus will cap off her controversial year in a big way. The “Wrecking Ball” singer will perform at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square, according to People. On December 17, the celebrity magazine reported that the 21-year old former “Hannah Montana” star will join Blondie, Icona Pop and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on the New Year’s Eve lineup.
In a statement, host Ryan Seacrest said, "We are going to have the country's biggest party,” while his co-host Jenny McCarthy added: “You never know what's going to happen and, as the saying goes, what happens in Times Square is seen by millions of people around the world, so you better keep it classy. Or so they keep telling me."
Seacrest told E! News he convinced the teen queen turned twerker to cancel a scheduled NYE appearance in Miami to join him in New York.
"A couple weeks ago I ran into her and I said, ‘All right, this has been your year,'" Seacrest told E! News. "'You've got so much going for you, a lot of buzz. You've gotta perform in Times Square right before midnight.' And she said, ‘OK, I'm in.'"
But don’t worry, she won’t be reenacting her racy “Wrecking Ball” video by swinging on the iconic ball in Times Square before it drops.
"This is a ball she cannot touch," Seacrest joked. "This one she cannot. She's not allowed to. But she can be standing under it when it goes down, when it drops."
One thing you can probably expect is a full wardrobe. While Cyrus has been known for her barely-there outfits throughout this year, the Times Square performance will be a chilly one.
"I don't know what to expect from her," Seacrest said. "We've seen so many wild performances all year. This one is outside and the temperature's very cold generally. So we shall see."
