The MTV Video Music Awards aired last night and the talk of the show is the performance of former Disney star Miley Cyrus. Many have hailed the gyrating, twerking and grinding against Robin Thicke as either "shocking" or "rocking." In all honesty it was more sad and pathetic...
Cyrus has undergone a change not only in her look and sound but also in her actions becoming more provocative in a desperate attempt to lose the "holier than thou" image that is becoming of many former stars of Disney programming.
There has also been turmoil in the Cyrus household with her father Billy Ray Cyrus and mother Tish filing and resending divorce papers in June of 2013, the second time the couple have started and stopped divorce proceedings.
The almost obscene dance routine that Cyrus performed on stage at the VMAs left some feeling "shocked," "puzzled," and "personally victimized." When the cameras panned to the celebrity audience many of the other stars looked perplexed and at times embarrassed not only for Miley but themselves and people watching at home.
To say Miley Cyrus raised the bar for tacky and shameful would be an understatement but she was able to upstage Lady Gaga who opened the show and changed costumes four times with the last being a seashell bra top and a string thong bottom which she gratuitously showed the audience at the end of her song. Gaga later sat in the audience wearing the "bikini."
The debate will continue as to whether Miley Cyrus was breaking out of her shell finally and her performance was "rocking" or if she was just looking to make headlines and her performance was "shocking." Regardless of which ends up being chosen, the more fitting words to describe Miley Cyrus last night are sad and pathetic.
