On Friday, October 11, 2013, Miley Cyrus sat down and talked to Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show about her split with Liam Hemsworth. The 20-year-old pop star has been on a press tour for several weeks promoting her new album Bangerz and has been able to avoid questions about the breakup until Ellen sat down to speak with her about it.
The last time Miley was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in November 2012, Ellen threw her an engagement party. Ellen said, “So the last time you were here, I threw you an engagement party.” Miley joked, “Do you want your money back?” Ellen came back with a joke of her own, “I want my money back.”
The two joked back and forth for a while before Miley opened up about how she feels about the breakup with Liam Hemsworth. She told Ellen that it’s not awkward talking about her breakup because she is living it. She said, "I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do. I just believe when a chapter is done you have to close it and start that new one. That's kind of where I am right now."
Miley went on to say, "I felt like I have so much to be thankful for at this time that my energy hasn't really been focused on that."
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth started dating in 2009 and were engaged to be married in 2012. Cyrus told Ellen that she never realized how personal her album Bangerz was until she sat down and really started listening to it. She said, "Until I really listened to it now that it's done and I have like my physical copy and I put it in my car. I'm like, ‘This is really like telling a story.' I think I knew more intuitively where my life was going then I actually thought I did at the time."
Cyrus has not been in contact with Hemsworth due to her being on a press tour and him shooting the new Hunger Games movie, Mockingjay. Hemsworth has yet to break the silence on the broken engagement between him and Cyrus.
