Miley Cyrus has no plans of slowing down the provocative media attention for 2014. On Friday the 21-year-old put a photo on her Instagram account that describes Jesus in her view, which infuriated some of her social media followers.

Readers of the Long Island Catholic Examiner, who wish to remain anonymous, spotted the Instagram post and immediately sent it to the attention of this writer with a question that asked if Miley Cyrus was a Catholic, as the Jesus post piqued their interests as members of the faith. The pop star is not Catholic; she was born and raised a Southern Baptist.

The young, liberal Catholics, were not offended by Miley Cyrus’ Instagram account of Jesus, pictured above, and they agreed with some of what was stated int the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s post. However, there were comments that followed the picture, which tell a different story.

Jesus was a radical, nonviolent revolutionary who hung around with lepers, hookers and crooks; wasn’t American and never spoke English; wasn’t anti-wealth, anti-death penalty, anti-public prayer (M 6:5). But was never anti-gay, never mentioned abortion, or birth control, never called the poor lazy, never justified torture, never fought for tax cuts for the wealthiest Nazarenes, never asked a leper for a copay, and was a long-haired, brown-skinned, homeless, community-organizing, anti-slut shaming Middle Eastern Jew.

Certainly accustomed to controversy, Miley Cyrus must be well aware of what the Jesus Instagram message would invoke, and it did indeed receive harsh criticism. One user panned Miley’s lack of intelligence, and another declared Cyrus would be in need of an abortion in the near future.

So sad for your lack of brain. See you in Nangijala

When you need an abortion in 4 years you'll change your mind lol

Miley Cyrus fans supported the celebrity's religious statement and rallied to defend the singer.

She's just voicing her opinion just as much as you are. People could have worse opinions. This isn't even nasty. It's the truth but it's just blunt and the truth.

What is your opinion? Is Miley Cyrus’ Instagram post about Jesus offensive? Feel free to comment below.
