Katy Perry kissed a girl, but she didn't like it. That girl was Miley Cyrus, and she's not thrilled about what Katy had to say about their recent smooch.

According to a March 6 report by E! Online, this spit-swapping smackdown started after Miley Cyrus attempted to make out with Katy Perry during her Bangerz concert in Los Angeles. "I just walked up to her to give her like a friendly girly kiss, you know, as girls do, then she like tried to move her head and go deeper and I pulled away," Katy said during a recent appearance on Australia's "Sunrise." She then explained why she was reluctant to swap spit with her fellow singer. "God knows where that tongue has been. We don't know! That tongue is so infamous!"

The French kiss fail didn't stop Miley from kissing girls. According to E! Online, she also locked lips with a lucky fan during her Mar. 1 concert in Las Vegas. She tweeted, "I wasn't wiping [off] your kiss pretty girl just your dark lipstick that was all over my face thanks for coming to the show mystery babe x."

Miley also used Twitter to respond to Katy. She tweeted, " Girl if ur worried abt where tongues have been good thing ur ex boo is ur EX BOO cause we ALL know where THAT been." Katy didn't seem too offended. She jokingly responded, "Oooo gurrrl I'm gonna give you the BIGGEST spanking when I see you in the UK bb!"

Katy Perry's kiss diss probably shouldn't upset Miley Cyrus's tongue too much -- the tough appendage has already found out that enduring attacks is just part of the life of a celebrity.

Now that the tongue is popular enough to have groupies, here's a look back at its meteoric rise to fame:

The Tongue's Big MTV Video Music Awards Moment

After Miley's tongue caused a major controversy at the VMAs simply by making an appearance onstage, creative director Diane Martel felt compelled to defend it. "And for the geriatric crew, the tongue out is not sexual," she told MTV News. "It's selfie code. It's mocking 'pretty.' It's not for your gaze. It's for a young audience's gaze."

The Gene Simmons Diss

This KISS singer (and member of the geriatric crew) obviously felt threatened by how quickly Miley's tongue was gaining fame. He critiqued the tongue's VMAs performance during a Rolling Stones interview. "It was okay," he said. "But that's a girl's version. It's like girls basketball. It's as good as girls can get at basketball. But you can't play with the guys." He's just jealous that he didn't think of licking a sledgehammer first.

The Cher Shaming

Cher also had some not-very-nice things to say about Miley's tongue. During a USA Today interview, she criticized the tongue for not being pretty enough to be a pop star. "And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated," she said. Hopefully that mean girl comment didn't make the tongue feel pressure to get plastic surgery to change its appearance.

The Rolling Stone Cover

Miley's tongue hit the big time by making the cover of Rolling Stone in September. However, all those terrible tongue-lashings had it already thinking about retiring. "Now people expect me to come out and twerk with my tongue out all the time. I'll probably never do that s**t again," Miley revealed. Spoiler alert: she lied.

The Tongue is Spotted with the Model of the Moment

In December, Miley's tongue was spotted getting cozy with the tongue of "It" girl Cara Delevingne. Cara's eyebrows had no comment about Miley's Instagram shot that appeared to show the singer licking Delevingne's tongue.

The Big Madonna Moment

Other members of the music community finally started embracing the tongue earlier this year. In January, Miley's tongue and Madonna's tongue appeared together in a hoedown-themed "MTV Unplugged" performance.

The Tongue Steps Out of Miley's Shadow

Finally, the tongue (literally) became bigger than Miley during the singer's Bangerz tour. It now opens the singer's concerts in the form of a gigantic tongue slide that Miley makes an entrance on.

Miley Cyrus better hope that the tongue doesn't ever decide to go solo.
