Is Miley a mean girl? It looks like singer Miley Cyrus wasn’t playing nice during a weekend concert in Italy, when she was caught on video singing her song "FU" while holding a cardboard cutout of former fellow Disney Channel star Selena Gomez.
According to a report on Tuesday, June 10 from the New York Daily News, the 21-year-old pop superstar grabbed the unflattering cutout of Gomez from a fan during the Milan “Bangerz” tour concert, and waved it around as she sang a few lines of her angry hit song before hurling the crude cardboard doll back into the crowd. While it seems to have been a spontaneous act, the timing of the act and the song title has some fans wondering if Cyrus is reigniting an old feud with Gomez.
It’s not the first time Gomez has been caught on tape making fun of her onetime Disney rival. Back in 2008, the "Hannah Montana" star recorded a YouTube video with pal Mandy Jiroux in which they mocked then-"Wizards of Waverly Place” star Gomez and “Camp Rock” star Demi Lovato.
At the time, Cyrus told Popstar! magazine that the video spoof was just a joke: “We were just, like, having fun,” she said. “They have, like, a YouTube account, and so at the end of our video we did put ‘Go to their YouTube.’ … We were kind of supporting their channel, but also being silly because they were being funny, and that’s our thing — to be funny. … Elvis says, ‘Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,’ so we were imitating them being funny.”
While Gomez hasn’t commented on Cyrus’s latest disrespectful diss, last year Radar Online reported that the onetime Disney teen queen “reportedly laid down the law with journalists” when she was promoting her “Stars Dance” tour last fall. One reporter even revealed that he was warned not to ask Gomez about Cyrus at all. (Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber was also on the “do not ask” list.)
Of course, there was a time when the Disney darlings got along, or at least pretended to. Back in 2008, Cyrus and Gomez performed together at the Teen Choice Awards, and in 2007 Gomez even guest-starred on Cyrus' iconic Disney show “Hannah Montana,” playing Hannah's rival on a three-episode story arc. But that was before the girls’ alleged feuds over boy singers Bieber and Nick Jonas.
