Reports on Dec. 31, 2012 from Gay Star News share Miley Cyrus’ views on London and how free she feels among her many gay fans.
As a open ally for the GLBTQ community, with an equal sign tattoo (much like the Human Rights Campaign logo) expressing her support for equal marriage rights, or gay marriage, it’s no surprise the former “Hannah Montana” star has a huge gay and lesbian fan base.
Currently engaged to actor Liam Hemsworth, “The Climb” singer shared during an interview with Bang Media:
“My favorite place to perform is London, because I have never seen more gay people in my whole life.”
“When I go to London that's what it is. I feel like they are so much more open, much more than here in the US when they're feeling trapped, where it's like, ‘Can I even say I believe in gay marriage? Can I say that my favorite fans are my gay fans? Am I allowed to say that?’, because half of America is still against it?"
“It's like, I just feel like when I go to Europe, I feel very free with my fan base.”
Miley Cyrus seems to be determined in her role as a GLBTQ ally. As an outspoken celebrity in regards to equal marriage rights, Cyrus stands to make an impact as more and more states in the U.S. consider adopting laws similar to Maryland, New York, and Maine – states which have already legalized same-sex marriage.
