Miley Cyrus boots Kim K. out, tops Yahoo's 'Most Searched List' 2013

Which of the two youthful celebrities that seem to make the news -- and not necessarily in a good way -- Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber, is atop Yahoo's search statistics for 2013? It was Miley Cyrus, hands-down, according to Yahoo, which released the list on Tuesday.

In fact, Bieber barely made the Top Ten list. There were, of course, several names and terms you would probably recognize.

Cyrus dethroned last year's "winner," Kim Kardashian, who fell to second place.

Among the reasons that 2013 may have been Miley-centric was that Cyrus' event-filled 2013. Not only did she break up with fiance Liam Hemsworth, she danced provocatively at the MTV Video Music Awards, released her new album "Bangerz" in October, and faced the brunt of criticism over twerking, tongue-lashing images, and more.

Meanwhile, despite giving birth to North West, Kim Kardashian fell to number two. The top ten list of most-searched-for terms -- in the general category -- in 2013 (at least, on Yahoo) is below.

  1. Miley Cyrus
  2. Kim Kardashian
  3. Kate Upton
  4. Minecraft
  5. Selena Gomez
  6. Obamacare (affordable care act)
  7. Amanda Bynes
  8. Jodi Arias
  9. iPhone 5
  10. Justin Bieber

As can be seen in the list, Bieber managed to grab the 10th spot. His on-again, off-again love interest, Selena Gomez, slotted in at number five, while the video game Minecraft hit number four. Jodi Arias, for those unaware, hit the list at number eight because of her murder trial.

The 33-year-old Arias became a headline regular for about five months, during her trial. The case grabbed the public eye with bizarre testimony and graphic sexual evidence. It concluded with Arias being found guilty in May of killing her boyfriend Travis Alexander at his Phoenix-area home. In terms of news items "only," the Arias murder case topped Yahoo's list.

The top searched for news stories were:

  1. Jodi Arias trial
  2. Obamamcare (affordable care act)
  3. Boston Marathon bombing
  4. Royal baby birth
  5. George Zimmerman trial
  6. Syria civil war
  7. North Korea missile threats
  8. Papal transition
  9. Paula Deen lawsuit
  10. Aaron Hernandez shooting

In terms of obsessions, it was ducks over zombies, as "Duck Dynasty" topped Yahoo's list of Top Obsessions 2013. Even "Breaking Bad" outdid "The Walking Dead / zombie apocalypse." Speaking of Miley's favorite obsession, twerking, that term hit number six on the list. The full list is below:

  1. Duck Dynasty
  2. Breaking Bad
  3. The Walking Dead/zombie apocalypse
  4. Fifty Shades of Grey casting
  5. The new 100 dollar bill
  6. Twerking
  7. Snapchat
  8. Rainbow loom
  9. Selfie
  10. Bitstrips

Finally, the top questions posed to Yahoo were:

  1. "who wins the bachelor"
  2. "what is twerking"
  3. "when is thanksgiving"
  4. "why only 6 jurors in zimmerman trial"
  5. "how to take a screenshot"
