Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have broken up again. And this time it, looks like their relationship is really over. Representatives for Cyrus and Hemsworth made the announcement about the breakup on Sept. 16, 2013, according to Reuters.
Hemsworth (who is 23) and Cyrus (who is 20) began dating in 2009, the year that they worked together on the movie "The Last Song," which was released in 2010. They broke up in 2011 but got back together and became engaged in 2012.
There had been much speculation over the past several months about the status of their relationship. Cyrus would sometimes be seen in public not wearing her engagement ring. Cyrus and Hemsworth were last seen photographed together on Aug. 8, 2013, at the Los Angeles premiere of Hemsworth's movie "Paranoia." Cyrus was photographed leaning her head on Hemsworth's shoulder, while he looked indifferent.
There were also major clues that the couple's romance was over.
Cyrus and Hemsworth both attended the 2013 Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 11, 2013, but they apparently kept their distance from each other because they were not photographed together at the show.
And more recently, Cyrus "unfollowed" Hemsworth on Twitter, amid ongoing rumors that he's been having an affair with actress January Jones.
Meanwhile, Cyrus has been the subject of rumors that she is abusing drugs, as she has changed her image dramatically since 2012. She has gone from having a "girl next door" image to that of being a wild partier. Cyrus also got a firestorm of criticism for her raunchy "twerking" performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25. Hemsworth has not publicly commented on her MTV VMA performance.
After Hemsworth began dating Cyrus, his career has gone on the rise. He is now part of the massive "Hunger Games" movie franchise, and he co-starred in the 2012 hit movie "The Expendables 2." ("Paranoia" was a flop though.)
While Cyrus' love life and movie career are currently in a slump, her music career is red-hot. Her singles released so far in 2013 ("We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball") have been major international hits. The music videos for both songs have also been breaking viewing records on Vevo. The "Wrecking Ball" video now holds the record for the video that reached 100 million views on Vevo in the fastest period of time (seven days). "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball" are the first two singles from Cyrus' album "Bangerz," which is set for release on Oct. 8, 2013.
