On Sunday, March 11, 2012 a unique event will take place in Johnson Park located along the banks of the Raritan River in Highland Park, NJ. It’s the First Annual Miles for Music 20K and 1 Miler.
The Mission of the Miles for Music organization according to Anne McCarthy of Cranford, NJ who is the Event Director “is to get kids and their families engaged – in physical activity, music and learning the important lesson of contributing to their community. The goal is for children to develop a love for and a habit of running, music and community engagement.”
The 20 K USATF Championship Race will start at 9 AM. It is a flat and fast course which is ideal for preparing for many of the upcoming half marathons. There will be a total of $1200 in prize money awarded to the top USATF finishers overall as well as age graded finishers. Awards will also be presented to age group winners in 5 year increments.
The day’s events will also include a Miles for Music 1 Miler – a special race open to any New Jersey School with a minimum of 10 participants that is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. Parents, students, teachers, administrators – anyone can be a member of a school team. The more participants from the school that sign up for the Miles for Music 1 Miler, the more money the school will receive for the school’s music education program.
The event is being staged in conjunction with the Raritan Valley Road Runners Club.
