The Mile High NORML Cannabis Rally on Thursday was amazing. Over 400 people attended the Jan 14, 2009 event.
Denver television stations reported that, as Gov. Bill Ritter gave the medical marijuana part of his State-of-the-State address across the street in the Capitol, the rally could be heard clearly inside the Chambers.
One reporter asked how we had timed it so perfectly that we could be heard inside the Capitol at the exact moment Ritter was talking about medical marijuana. It was just lucky, but we're glad all the state legislators and the Governor knew we were there with force enough to be heard across the street and inside the Capitol," said Laura Kriho of the Cannabis Therapy Institute.
After the rally, organizer Miguel Lopez of Mile High NORML gave the first-ever Cannabis Advocate Grassroots Lobbying Tour of the Capitol. About 40 patients, caregivers and advocates attended, many of them dressed to impress in their suits and business attire. Miguel showed advocates all the
Committee Rooms and the offices of Senate and House members. Many people were able to find and talk to their representatives and senators. It was a very empowering event for everyone. For most people, it was their very first experience with grassroots lobbying and meeting their elected officials. Mile High NORML hopes to do more of these tours in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
