Mild temperatures, gusty winds highlight Denver’s weekend weather

Northeastern Colorado will enjoy extraordinarily warm temperatures Friday and this weekend. However, as is often the case this time of year, gusty winds will be featured as well.

It is the downslope winds in fact that drive temperatures up this time of year. As they descend the slopes of the mountains, they warm and push temperatures up. That is the price to be paid for the mild conditions.

For Friday Denver will enjoy mostly sunny skies with only breezy winds. Temperatures today will climb to the mid-50s, a bit cooler than yesterday due to a weak cold front.

Overnight tonight wind speeds will be increasing with gusts to 35 mph possible during the day tomorrow. Higher readings will of course be likely as you get closer to the foothills.

Temperatures Saturday will be climbing to right around the 60 degree mark, well above the average for the date of 46 degrees. Mostly sunny skies will be above.

Winds will decrease overnight Saturday but then pick back up by Sunday morning. Gusts on Sunday will once again be in the 30 to 35 mph range in town.

Sunday’s high temperatures are going to feel spring-like as we head for a high in the upper 60s, possibly pushing the 70 degree mark. 70 degrees is actually the record high for February 16 set in 1970. It may be threatened.

Looking ahead to next week, the mild conditions are expected to last through the first half of the workweek. The latter half however could see a return of colder weather possibly with snow.
