Mild but windy conditions in Denver Monday, slight chance for overnight snow

The Mile High City will start off the workweek with a pleasant day in terms of temperatures but strong winds are going to put a damper on any enthusiasm. The mild day will be followed by a slight chance for overnight snow and colder temperatures Tuesday.

For Monday we will start the day with partly sunny skies and those will continue throughout the daytime hours. Temperatures will warm quickly aided by downslope flow and top out near the 70 degree mark in town.

As nice as those temperatures are, the wind however is going to be the dominant condition today. Wind speeds will be increasing as the day progresses and by mid to late afternoon gusts to 45 mph will be possible. Higher speeds to 60 mph will be possible in the foothills and high country.

For all of the Colorado plains just east of Denver, dry fuels and the strong winds will lead to increased fire danger. A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 8:00 p.m. for these areas.

Our next storm system arrives in the state today and will impact the high country today then move east tonight.

Snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches will be possible in the northern mountains and some areas west of the Continental Divide. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect tonight for the affected areas.

Here at lower elevations we stand just a slight chance to see some light snow develop after midnight. Showers will be possible through Tuesday. No real accumulation is expected; less than a half inch if any at all.

Tuesday’s temperatures will be cooler than normal with Denver’s high topping out in the low to mid-40s. Winds will continue to be strong tomorrow but less than today with gusts to 30 mph.

For the balance of the week we bounce back nicely with temperatures at or above normal and dry conditions into Saturday.
