One of the hardest things about living in a foreign country is missing your hometown food. As much as the world has shrunk and ingredients have migrated as much as people, there are items that are still very hard to find.
Take cuts of meat, for example, or types of fish for that matter. Until you try them, it’s really hard to try to choose the cut to substitute the one that you were really craving. HEB has that under control. With a growing population of mexican residents in The Woodlands area, they have started to introduce products that cater to this palate.
HEB (in all 3 Woodlands locations) has milanesa cut beef. Walmart used to be the only other place where you could purchase it, but in the past couple of years it is a case of hit and miss. Packed up and ready to go, milanesa cut beef is already breaded and ready to take home. Perfect for a delicious torta de milanesa in these winter months.
However, it is the New Year and resolutions are there to be kept, so if you aren’t interested in frying up breaded meat, you can purchase the same meat without the breading. Season it with salt, lemon pepper, olive oil, a dash of balsamic vinegar, dried parsley, garlic powder and grill them up within seconds on the grill pan. Not only is this recipe a time saver for you can leave the meat to sit in its marinade all day while you are at work, but it is a delicious healthy alternative that you can chop up into bite size pieces and make tacos using fresh corn tortillas. Add salsa, chopped onion, limes and cilantro and you have tacos de bistec night any day of the week.
