Now you have the opportunity to celebrate the mighty melon by attending the 56th annual Melon Festival in Milan, Ohio being held on Saturday, August 30, Sunday, August 31 and Monday, September 1. Milan is approximately a one hour drive from Cleveland.
Milan Melon Festival Taking place on the Milan Village Square, the Milan Melon Festival expects more than 50,000 people to attend. This family-friendly event will feature a wide variety of fun activities for all age groups. And of course, there will be lots and lots of melons.
The one thing you don't want to miss is the culinary delight of eating the watermelon sherbet and the cantaloupe ("mussmelon") ice cream.
Activities at the Festival include watermelon balancing, a Beautiful Baby contest, a cornhole tournament, a chalk drawing contest, a Big Wheel Race, A Queen's contest, a 5K & Fun Run, an arts & crafts show, a pedal tractor pull and a "must-see" presentation of melon bowling.
And make sure you don't miss the Grand Parade on Sunday at 2 p.m.
There will also be a Pizza Eating Contest and a Milk Shake Contest.
There will be plenty of free musical entertainment with performers including Nashville Crush (county and rock), Monkey Love, the Edison Band, Rumours, Joy UnSPEAKABLE, The Womack Family Band and G-Force (three little sisters).
Foodwise, in addition to melon items there will also be a Fireman's Chicken Barbecue at the Milan Fire Station on Sunday.
Hours for the Milan Melon Festival are 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Saturday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Sunday and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Monday (Labor Day). Admission is free. Parking is also free.
