When it was reported that Milan Lucic was not a part of Boston Bruins practice on Jan. 17, it set off a firestorm of speculation about why he was off the ice. Questions became answers a day later, though, and it turns out he missed practice for the best of reasons.
His wife Brittany spent Jan. 17 giving birth to the couple's first baby, a girl named Valentina. The baby Lucic arrived at 5:31 p.m. and weighed eight pounds and one ounce.
Lucic's teammates Tyler Seguin and Andrew Ference sent congratulations via Twitter.
"[C]ongrats to my boy luch and brittany on their new baby girl !" Seguin said while fellow father Ference welcomed Lucic to the fatherhood club.
But Lucic didn't take too much time off after his daughter was born. He got right back on the ice on Jan. 18 along with Jordan Caron, who is recovering from an injury. The rest of the team is doing off-ice work as they prepare for their season opener on Jan. 19.
