Friends with Benefits focuses on Jamie (Mila Kunis) and Dylan (Justin Timberlake) as the two are getting over bad relationships and decide they will have a relationship that is based 100% on sex, without any emotional connection or commitment.  The Urban Dictionary defines Friends with Benefits as follows.

Two friends who have a sexual relationship without being emotionally involved.  Typically two good friends who have casual sex without a monogamous relationship or any kind of commitment.

The concept of being Friends with Benefits has played an important aspect in American culture for the past decade.  The idea of simply being  friends by day and sexual partners by night (or vice versa) brings up a plethora of issues and many wonder if it is possible to share the most intimate moments of oneself with another and maintain an ongoing relationship without any emotional attachment.  Friends with Benefits differs from one night stands as with those sexual encounters, partners leave and typically rarely see each other again- and if so- it is often quite by accident.  With this new dimension to dating, the couple is involved in sexual activity that is based upon friendship, without the usual “trappings” of a relationship.  To put it simply, Friends with Benefits is a way for two friends to meet each other’s needs sexually, without the commitment of a long term relationship.

Do you think it is possible to maintain a Friends with Benefits relationship or do you think it is inevitable that one person or both will develop feelings of strong attachment to the other?

As for the film, Director and writer Will Gluck stated in an interview with Movie Fone last September that he specifically wrote Friends with Benefits for Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake as he had wanted to work with both actors.

“There were a couple of actors I wanted to work with, so I wrote it for Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. I wanted to do more of an adult movie about sex, too, and about relationships. It's kind of a throwback to the old Hepburn and Tracy movies. “Will Gluck continued, “It's as if they were making a movie in 2010. Having seen all the old movies, the characters know about the movies, too. I also got a great cast to support them. It's not just old films, but old stories.”

Friends with Benefits is not yet rated.
