I’ve seen quite a few trailers recently for upcoming comedies, but this may in fact be the best of the bunch. Sony’s Screen Gems has posted a Red Band trailer for its July 22, 2011 release of Friends with Benefits starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

A young female headhunter (Kunis) in New York convinces a potential recruit (Timberlake) to leave his job in San Francisco behind and accept a job in the big apple. Despite an attraction to each other, both realize they’re everything they’ve been running from in a relationship and decide to become friends… with benefits. It’s the perfect arrangement–until they realize there’s no such thing as no strings attached.

Frankly, this looks a hell of a lot better than the Ashton Kutcher-Natalie Portman comedy No Strings Attached that opens in January. Friends with Benefits was co-written and directed by Will Gluck, who is coming off the recent success of Easy A, a comedy that became a minor hit for Screen Gems this fall. It also boosted Emma Stone’s visibility. She has a small role in this comedy and will also be seen in the big-screen adaptation of the bestselling novel The Help next spring. The cast of Gluck’s comedy also includes Jenna Elfman, Bryan Greenberg, Patricia Clarkson, Richard Jenkins, Woody Harrelson, Andy Samberg and a guy that plays third base for the New York Yankees. Sized up against Captain America: The First Avenger on July 22, the comedy will either be dead on arrival, or it may be one of those sleeper films of the summer that may not be an overly huge success, but may stick around in the box office top ten with relative consistency. What do you guys think, does it have a shot?
