News of veteran beauty editor Mikki Taylor  leaving Essence flew across Twitter, Blog world and the Internet this week.  To fully understand her impact on the beauty world,  one must consider the time and context that surrounded her career.  She covered all things beauty and style related before  black women were considered icons of beauty in mainstream media. Make-up and beauty lines geared for women of color were in their infantcy.

Ms. Mikki Taylor and the former editor in chief, Susan Taylor with grace and dignity pushed the envelope to both give  women of color  beauty tips and empower them with products that would show them in their best light.  With covers from

As of March 31, she will transition from beauty editor to editor-at-large and spend time grooming her business: MT Enterprises LLC.
