Grigorenko, 19, has been deemed ineligible to participate in the tournament due to playing too many NHL games with the Sabres during the 2012-2013 season.
Drafted 12th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2012 NHL Draft, Grigorenko played 25 games with the team last season, scoring one goal and adding four assists for five points to go along with a minus-1 rating and zero penalty minutes. However, he only averaged 10:14 of ice time per game.
Grigorenko also played 33 games with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season, scoring 30 goals and adding 24 assists for 54 points while tallying only eight penalty minutes. He was also rated a plus-10.
Grigorenko is likely to get more ice time with the Sabres this season, which will give him a chance to prove why they drafted him with their first selection in last year’s draft.
