Mikey Welsh, former bassist for the band Weezer, was found dead in his Chicago hotel room Saturday. Welsh was 40.
It is suspected that Mikey Welsh died of drug overdose, according to the Chicago Tribune. Police found prescription drugs in the room along with a bag of white powder, which is thought to be heroin.
An employee from the Raffaello Hotel in Chicago called police Saturday afternoon when Welsh didn’t checked out of his hotel room as planned, CNN reported. According to Darryl Baety, a Chicago police spokesman, police arrived and found Welsh "unresponsive and not breathing,” Welsh was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:50 p.m.

He later added: "Correction, weekend after next."
Welsh is preceded in death by other famous bassists taken too soon, including Cliff Burton (Metallica), Paul Gray “The Pig” (Slipknot), Mike Starr (Alice in Chains), Peter Steele (Type O Negative).
