Today, the Minnesota Vikings announced that Mike Zimmer is the team’s new head coach. Unfortunately, for Bengals fans, they lost their most successful defensive coordinator in the team’s history. Zimmer is a beloved figure in Cincinnati. The team’s defensive players loved him and always played hard for him.
Chris Crocker, Adam Jones, Wallace Gilberry, and Terrence Newman are some of the careers Zimmer influenced. Coach Zimmer’s coaching career began in 1979 at the University of Missouri. He finally coached his way into the NFL coaching ranks in 1994. He has coached for the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Although it took more than thirty years for Zimmer to become a head coach, many players and coaches thought Zimmer should have become a head coach much sooner. With Zimmer as the Vikings new head coach, fans can expect a thorough shakeup to the team’s roster. In a season with high hopes of winning, the Vikings suffered through a disappointing 2013 season.
