Mike Vensel Paints the runway black (Photos)

It’s safe to suggest that black is back this fall, at least for the gowns of designer Mike Vensel. This evening March 9, 2013 in Los Angeles, CA at Sirens Studios for Concept LA, Mike, a minimalist designer, presented his fall/ winter 2013 collection titled “Oblivion.”

As usual in Los Angeles, the show did not start on time but it was certainly worth the wait. Oblivion was a collection full of feminine silhouettes and starry night black. Mike Vensel painted the runway black, which really added to the show’s ethereal nature. His designs were simplistic in character, but aroused the senses. Suede, silk and chiffon were in effect throughout the collection creating a goddess-like presence in the room while balancing the asymmetrical cuts.

The constant sight of hats reigning down the catwalk reignited my appreciation for the neglected accessory. Collectively the plethora of sun hats added a classic element of strength and poise to the contemporary collection. Onlookers were given a sultry, femme, and cohesive collection consisting of deep backless full-length dresses, form-fitting vests, and romantic ponchos that could bring the inner goddess out of any woman. With the color pallet including hints of romantic red and subtle ivory within the void of dark black, the neutral fashions will pair well with many items in your closet. The non-iron, ready-to-wear pieces are a busy Angelino’s best friend.
