Mike Tyson isn’t sober as previously reported. The former heavyweight champion boxer admitted that he’s been lying about his sobriety, and that he’s an alcoholic, according to a Aug. 24 press conference.
"I haven't drank or took drugs in six days, and for me that's a miracle. I've been lying to everybody else that think I was sober, but I'm not," Tyson revealed during a press conference at Turning Stone Resort in New York, where he was promoting his first fight with Iron Mike Production.
"This is my sixth day. I'm never gonna use again,” Mike Tyson said of being sober, and the lies he’s told in the past.
"I'm a bad guy sometimes," Tyson continued. "I did a lot of bad things, and I want to be forgiven. So in order for me to be forgiven, I hope they can forgive me. I wanna change my life, I wanna live a different life now. I wanna live my sober life. I don't wanna die. I'm on the verge of dying, because I'm a vicious alcoholic. Wow. God, this is some interesting stuff."
Mike Tyson has struggled to stay sober in the past, and has had been arrested multiple times. The former boxer says he’s ready to turn over a new leaf, as he embarks on his new venture as a boxing promoter.
However, the temptation will always be there for Mike as an admitted addict. His fans are hoping that he can stay sober, and in the profession where he’s excelled.
