Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino blames his addiction to prescription drugs on an injury he sustained while doing the show “Dancing With the Stars” in 2010. Mike, star from the hit show “Jersey Shore,” hurt his lower back, and neck during that time. To help combat the pain, a doctor prescribed an opiate pain pill. The young star told CBS during a sit down interview, that he could not go through a day without taking one of those pills.
Mike didn’t realize that he had an addiction to the medication until he went to Australia in February 2012. He was out of pills and couldn’t get any more. He remembers lying in bed. His clothes were laid out, and the shower was running, because he had a scheduled appearance.
“And I really couldn't get up, I didn't feel well. Right then and there, I knew. I said, 'Listen, if I can't do this -- get up and simply get dressed -- how am I going to continue to do the next [season of] Jersey Shore? How am I going to continue to do TV or film or continue the blessing that has been blessed upon me?' And so the next day, I was on a plane to Utah and rehab, recovery."
Mike finished rehab in April 2012 and is staying drug free. He wants to be an inspiration to others who may be battling with the same problems of addiction. To reach out to more people, he joined Reset Reality. This is an organization to help raise public awareness of prescription drug addictions.
