Mike's Haddock House on the move to new location on Milton Ave.

January 26, 2012: Mike's Haddock House relocates this weekend from its tiny first home on West Genesee St. near Fairmount's four corners to a newly renovated full restaurant space at 3249 Milton Ave. The expanded Haddock House moves down the road into the space near Fairmount Aquarium that was recently vacated by the By the Brook diner. Mike's Haddock House has been part of the suburbs just west of Syracuse since September, 2010.

According to owner Mike Simiele, the move will triple the size of his current restaurant's kitchen, provide a full dining room (up from a half-dozen tables and three counter stools) and offer more parking for patrons. He'll continue to offer the Haddock House's current menu and daily specials. Simiele explained that in the new location, he has the potential to expand his fresh fish sales and his dine-in business.

Inspired by the Haddock Paddock stand at the New York State Fair, Simiele opened as Mike's Haddock Paddock in September, 2010, after being laid off from his former job at New Process Gear. Nestled in the tiny storefront space tucked behind Carol's Polar Parlor, he put a sandwich board of daily specials on West Genesee St. and started cooking.

The menu is simple: burgers, macaroni and cheese, Italian specialties, fried appetizers, homemade carrot cake and cheesecake, and, of course, fresh fried haddock dinners and sandwiches. His staff includes family and some employees from the State Fair's Haddock Paddock. In September, 2011, Simiele changed his business name to Mike's Haddock House.

On January 25, Simiele told Syracuse Food that he plans to cook in his current location at the four corners “until I run out of food.” When that happens, he'll stop serving at the West Genesee St./Fairmount four corners location to move into the location, planned for the last weekend in January. Simiele plans to reopen Mike's Haddock House for business at 3249 Milton Ave. next Wednesday, February 1.

Current hours are Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Sunday, 1- 7 p.m. Readers should call the restaurant at 315-468-0580 to confirm daily specials and hours.
