Mike Rowe star of Dirty Jobs to speak at closing Jamboree arena show

Mike Rowe, star of the Discovery Channel hit "Dirty Jobs", is a featured speaker at Saturday's closing arena show at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. Not surprisingly, the crowd favorite is taking some liberties with the Scout Law. Printed on his official Boy Scout Dirt Shirt, Rowe, an Eagle Scout, dares, "A SCOUT IS CLEAN BUT NOT AFRAID TO GET DIRTY".

The "Dirty Jobs" star is an ardent supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. One look at his website www.mikeroweworks.com and it's clear Scouting had a positive impact in his life. Nearly every page on the site has a reference, a story, a link or a mention of Boy Scouts. Mike, an Eagle Scout, was joined by his brothers, mother and father in Scouting; a true Scouting family legacy.

Take, for example, this memory from Peggy Rowe, Mike's mother, from 1972, "Our son hated trying anything new, or being the center of attention." She later credits Scouting for changing all that.

The closing arena show is a highly anticipated cornerstone event for the 100th Anniversary National Jamboree. Accompanying Rowe at the show is musical guest, Switchfoot. Chief Scout Executive Bob Mazzuca will give a presentation, entitled "Celebrate The Future of BSA." The spectacle ends with a fantastic fireworks display.

The broadcast coverage for this worldwide event is unprecedented, even for the BSA. On Saturday, July 31, it will be broadcast live at 6:00pm MT, and rebroadcast later in the week, on BYUtv (available on most basic cable packages); via satellite and online via ustream starting at 8:00pm EDT. The show is also available at 8:00pm EDT on the BSA Facebook page, Shining Light tab. Councils all across America join in the celebration with special viewing parties set up to watch the streamed event.

Mike what you had to say was amazing my son Matthew loves your show- He is also a kid that has to grow into himself... We did not have all the cash for him to get to the BSAJambo and Matthew took on the Dirty Jobs that the people we know did not want to do-saying if Mike Rowe can do it so can i.. Cleaning dog kennels, weed waking farm fence lines, shoveling hoarse poo , and mowing lawns in the heat. We are proud of him he is at the 100th year celebration having a great well deserved time.
