Fret wizard, Mike Orlando took time out of his Valentine’s Day festivities to chat with The Examiner and Metal Nation Radio about Adrenaline Mob‘s new sophomore album, “Men of Honor“. The band has been streaming tracks from the record all winter, and on February 18, the album finally hit stores and digital outlets.
“Men of Honor” marks the first recordings with new drummer, A.J. Pero, of Twisted Sister fame, who simply pummelled the kit. Original drummer, Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Flying Colors, The Winery Dogs) left the band last spring due to tour scheduling conflicts and his varied other projects. Pero also plays drums in Orlando’s other band, Tred. During our interview, Orlando talked about bringing Pero on board. He shared that A.J. was initially brought in only to play drums on a bonus track that is not on the initial album release. He said it was clear immediately that A.J. was the guy for Adrenaline Mob.
Orlando hopes that Tred will be able to release its debut effort sometime late this year. Aside from Pero and Orlando, the legendary Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy, Dio, Quiet Riot) will play bass, and Tim “Ripper” Owens is now able to commit to the band. According to Mike, Ripper has laid vocals on a number of tracks so far, and Orlando admits to being blown away.
You can listen to the full interview above (just push play button) as Mike shares a few of his favorite guitar riffs, and how easily the writing process works between he and vocalist, Russell Allen, and what bassist John Moyer does on this record that added to his performance.
