Monkees Convention 2014, a celebration of the Monkees in March which already had one member of the group, Micky Dolenz appearing, announced Jan. 10 the big news that Mike Nesmith would make a rare appearance and perform at the convention. The event will take place March 14-16 at the Hilton Meadowlands in Meadowlands, N.J.

On his Facebook page, Nesmith wrote about accepting the invitation to attend.

“The people over at the Monkees convention kept asking me to come over the years and I never saw the point until I started touring again. And then it started to make sense,” he said. “This year when they asked, I said 'yes.' I agreed to come and sign and talk -- and to play a solo show with my 'Movies of the Mind' band.

“As things developed, all my kids decided to come as well and I think Christian and Circe and Jonathan and Jessica are all going to be at the Convention. Christian and Circe will play a set, as will Jonathan. That will be a delight for me. And Jason is coming to lend moral support and maybe sell some of his CD’s from a few years ago. All in all it is shaping up to be a fun family outing with some good music. A Nezfair at the Monkees Convention.”

Promoters Phyllis Paganucci and Jodi Blau Ritzen said that Nesmith will be performing his Movies of the Mind show on March 15.

The weekend event will include also performances from Micky Dolenz, Coco Dolenz, Christian Nesmith and Circe Link, Jonathan Nesmith, Jessica Nesmith. Actress Ami Dolenz will also be signing copies of her new children’s book and answering a Q and A along with her sisters, artist and photographer Emily Dolenz and Micky's youngest daughter, Georgia, who's an actress and business partner in Dolenz & Daughters Fine Furniture.

Other guests of the convention who will greet fans and sign autographs will be Butch Patrick of “The Munsters,” Donna Loren from “Shindig,” Valerie Venet, rock (and Monkees) photographer Henry Diltz, Gary Stroble, Gary DeCarlo of Steam, Geri Reischel, May Pang, “F Troop” actor Larry Storch, Beatles Artist Shannon and David and Jennifer Alexander and more. The Monkeemobile will also be on display.

During the event, the Monkees will also be presented with their awards of induction into the American Pop Music Hall of Fame as voted by fans late last year. The event will also include a special tribute to Davy Jones. Organizers said there will be meet and greets with all of the guests and a Monkees memorabilia market place.
