The 2013 Boston Red Sox are quickly reminding Red Sox fans of the 2004 team. This team has character, fight, and a tenacity that never has them out of a game. On Saturday, the Red Sox bashed their way to a 13-9 victory over the rival New York Yankees to recorded their fifth straight victory. As the Associated Press reported on September 7, the bat of Mike Napoli led the attack as the Sox continued their offensive surge.
It started with the 20 runs the team scored against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night and has continued in New York. The team has scored 54 runs, 17 homers and 64 hits in a current four game stretch. An amazing stretch and one that has seen the bat of first basemen Mike Napoli awaken. On Saturday, Napoli belted two home runs after delivering a grand slam just the night before.
"Sometimes you're like, 'What's going on?' Because what we're doing now is pretty crazy," Napoli said after the game.
What the Red Sox are doing is inching closer and closer to wrapping up the AL East following a season where the team finished in last place and lost their winning attitude. The winning attitude is also awakening Red Sox Nation. As the Sox slugged out their 87th victory, the chants of "Let's Go Red Sox!" was heard in Yankee Stadium.
The magic is back in Boston.
