Mike Krzyzewski out: Coach confirms plans to leave U.S. men's basketball team

Fans of the U.S. men's basketball team should prepare themselves for a new coach, as Mike Krzyzewski is out. The coach spoke with ESPN Radio on Feb. 26 and says that he believes the team is in a great position, but he doesn't plan to return to the team.

Coach Krzyzewski says that he has “loved, loved, loved” being with the team and it's been an honor. He has been with the team for seven years, but it seems he feels it is time to move on to other opportunities. With Mike Krzyzewski out, fans of the U.S. Men's basketball team apparently can expect a new coach to be named over the summer.

The team has won two Olympic gold medals under Krzyzewski's leadership, but he has been saying for some time he was planning to leave and he told ESPN Tuesday that his stance has not changed. Many will be disappointed that Mike Krzyzewski is out as clearly there were some who had hoped he would change his mind. However, his confidence in the team is clear, and hopefully a new coach can come in and build the team to achieve even greater things.
