Mike Krzyzewski done: Duke coach will not return as USA Basketball coach

Mike Krzyzewski done as a coach is making sports headlines this week, as ESPN News reported this Tueday, Feb. 26, that the popular Duke coach is saying his farewells, as he will not be returning to coach USA Basketball following the end of the Blue Devils’ season.

During his phone interview with “Mike & Mike in the Morning” via ESPN Radio, Mike Krzyzewski revealed that USA Basketball will probably name his successor as coach this summer for the upcoming World Championships in 2014. The major sports event is being hosted in Madrid this year.

"I've loved, loved, loved, and it's been an honor being with the USA Basketball team," Krzyzewski said. "And to coach the team and work with [chairman Jerry Colangelo] for seven years has been marvelous.

While Mike Krzyzewski done may have become a trending search topic this Tuesday, that doesn’t mean that the Duke coach feels that the USA Basketball team is done in any sense of the word.

"And we're in a good spot," Krzyzewski added. "We need to keep building."

Krzyzewski joined as the USA Basketball coach following the team’s rather poor showing at the 2002 and 2004 Olympics, winning the world championship this 2010 despite not having one Olympian on the roster.

His successor is yet to be determined.
