Mike “Da Coach” Ditka had an embarrassing moment on ESPN on Sunday when he fell asleep on live television, according to the Chicago Tribune’s report on Monday.
The famed former football player as well as Super Bowl-winning coach was caught taking a nap during his appearance on the “Sunday NFL Countdown” show aired on ESPN.
While sitting alongside Keyshawn Johnson on the program, Ditka was unresponsive and needed a good-sized nudge by Johnson to get back in the pre-game conversation among fellow-sports analysts. The nap initiated during a field report segment when the cameras were away from the panel of foorball analysts. When the cameras came back to the panel, it found Ditka off in lala-land counting sheep.
The coach may have been overly-tired from a busy schedule, so the media is assertively excusing him. His schedule has recently included being featured at Soldier Field in Chicago where his number was retired during a Bears' halftime ceremony. Then again, maybe he was just resting up for the Bears-Packers game that was to follow later on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, for the former coach, the current coach, the players, and the Bears’ fans, the Bears lost the big game.
