On August 20, 2011, Mike Bickle of the International House of Prayer, spoke on the subject of encountering the magnificence of Jesus. The teaching composed the first part of the series “Jesus, Our Magnificent Obsession." Mike Bickle recently made headline news when he spoke at “The Response USA,” as one of the honorary co-chairs and prayer leaders. Republican presidential nominee and Texas Governor Rick Perry organized the event. Mike Bickle served as pastor of the Metro Christian Fellowship and was part of what many refer to as the “Kansas City Prophets.”
Bickle’s teaching is based upon Proverbs 2:1-5 and Matthew 16: 13-19 that states, “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?” The question is answered in verse 16 that states, “And Simon Peter answered and said, ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Bickle’s message is that a victorious and powerful church is built on the revelation that Jesus is the Son of God; the Messiah.
In verse 18 of Matthew 16, Jesus continues by stating, “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Bickle explained that it was the revelation of who Jesus is that sets the foundation for the church. The teaching continues to focus on the authority strength and power the church possesses as well as the assurance that it will reign victorious and the impact the knowledge of God has upon the individual, and the church as a whole.
