The Miguel single "Simple Things" which made its premier back in February as a featured single on the HBO 'Girls' soundtrack, is now coupled with an official released on Thursday May 29 according to Rap Up.
The video, displayed in black and white, shows Miguel as he walks the streets of Los Angeles, draped in a leather jacket and wearing shades, as he searches the city for his love interest whom he ultimately meets up with at the beach.
The lyrics describe just how practical and simple finding love and being love can be. "She said I just want someone true. I just want someone to smoke with me babe. And lay with me babe. Laugh with me. I just want the simple things." The essence of these lyrics are captured in the video where Miguel and his love interest share a quiet intimate moment on the beach just enjoying each other.
The single, very reminiscent of an old school Prince vibe, with the strong presence of the electric guitar in the background, was exactly what the HBO Girls show creator, Lena Dunham, was looking for when piecing together the soundtrack for season two, Girls Volume 2: All Adventurous Women Do. .
Rolling Stone reports, Dunham specially requested the song. During an interview she explains how "very early on in the process Lena said, 'Can we just call him and see if he'll do something?'" "We did, he said yes. It was very easy."
Miguel is no stranger to successful, top charting R&B singles so it's no wonder why he was sought after for his musical talents to contribute to this soundtrack. With song's like "Adorn," "Sure Thing," and "How Many Drinks," his body of work is definitely well noticed.
