Madison Square Garden will be the site for one of the most highly anticipated fights of the year as Miguel Cotto battles Sergio Martinez tonight on HBO/Top Rank pay-per-view. According to a June 7 SBN report, TV start times and live streaming (online) schedule for tonight’s boxing fights are now available.
Scott Christ’s report indicates that the four fight on tonight’s Cotto vs. Martinez main card go as follows (All Eastern Times): Andy Lee vs. John Jackson (9 p.m.), Jorge Melendez vs. Javier Maciel (10 p.m.), Wilfredo Vazquez Jr vs. Marvin Sonsona (11 p.m.) and Miguel “Junito” Cotto vs. Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (Midnight). TV coverage gets underway with “Countdown to Boxing: Cotto/Martinez” at 8:30 p.m. ET (DirecTV channel 123-124).
For Miguel Cotto, tonight’s fight will offer him the opportunity to become the first Puerto Rican fighter to win titles in four different weight classes. In addition, this will be a big payday for the 33-year-old Boricua, as he’s guaranteed $7 million compared to Martinez’s $1.5 million (plus PPV upside) deal.
For the 39-year-old southpaw, the Argentine is healthy and in the best shape of his life coming into this fight. “Maravilla” suffered a broken hand and torn ligaments during his win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., but was able to shake off the ring rust with a unanimous decision win over Martin Murray last April in Buenos Aires.
As far as tonight’s showdown is concerned, this is sure to be one of, if not the most fan-friendly fight of the year. The clash between Miguel Cotto and Sergio Maravilla is a matchup made in boxing heaven.
Watch Cotto and Martinez go to war in what is sure to be fireworks inside the square-circle this evening. Tune to HBO/Top Rank PPV (via DirecTV channels 123 and 124), or click here to watch the boxing live stream feed online.
