LAS VEGAS--You might think Miguel I’m No Angel Cotto is celoso, meaning jealous in Spanish. You might think that he envies the amazing international publicity and hoopla being enjoyed by his Saturday night rival, Manny Pacquiao.
You would be wrong, sagebrush breath.
Cotto, tranquil and seemingly totally at ease with himself and this impeding bout, was more than gracious in speaking to the media at the MGM Grand Hotel Tuesday afternoon.
I asked the WBO world champion from Caguas what he thought about the transcendent allure that the Pinoy Idol clearly has.

“No matter, everything Manny has, everything he gets, Manny has earned this,” Cotto said. “He has earned the right to enjoy it all.”
Still, Cotto continues to insist that when it comes down to mano a mano inside the squared circle, the winners will be himself and his beloved Puerto Rico.

“I respect Phil, he is a professional and I am sure he will have Miguel in great condition,” Pacman conditioning guru Alex Ariza told me last week at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.
Isn’t that a rare and refreshing note in boxing, a member of one camp not trashing his counterpart on the other side?
Cotto said his training stints in Tampa and now here in the gambling mecca have gone smoothly.
“When you have good communication on your team, when the people are working in an integrated way and talking to each other…when all the effort of all the persons is to get the best out of Miguel Cotto, then you have a pretty nice, confident team.”
Cotto was asked about the left eye which sliced up early on in the Joshua Clottey bout in June.
“My eye is pretty well,” Cotto said.
I asked why, if he was a natural lefthander when he first started boxing, that Cotto switched over to become a righthander.
“I was only 11 years old back then,” Cotto said, smiling at the memory. “I switched myself because I just felt more comfortable. No one made me switch over. It came to me naturally.”
Pacquiao, of course, is a sizzling southpaw.
Cotto said he has carefully studied certain Pacquia bouts and made careful mental notes of Manny’s boxing tendencies.
"We watch those tapes and we see what happens,” Cotto said. “We looked at the first fight with Erik Morales that Manny lost. Then we looked at the first fight and the second fight against (Juan Manuel) Marquez. This training camp has made a difference because we had a purpose.”
If the butterflies are about to break loose inside Cotto, you wouldn’t know it at least not now.
His fight with Pacman looks to be a hot one but Cotto is one cool customer.

I don't understand why a 'legendary boxing scribe' can't get a decent video-interview of Pacquiao.
Marley, are you really serious about your prediction of the fight going to distance? Or did you revise it as you have hinted and predicted a knockout? Because as far as I'm concerned, based on what I see, Pacquiao's going to dissect Cotto.
These are 2 warriors that respect each other. No need for trash talking to hype it up. You will see a real fight and in the end, shake each other's hands/gloves. As Manny said, "may the best man win".
Manny is also ambidextrous. He plays the guitar and shoot darts with the right hand.

Miguel is the one needing a heavy dosage of help to weather the rain of heavy blows he'll get from Manny---the heavy puncher from GenSan, Cotabato. Guaranteed.
At least Cotto is a decent guy and I think he will not make excuses when he loses to Pac. Oscar the mother of all cry babies is numero uno in my list. To think that Pac is also not the same fighter he used to when he was knock out twice and then lost to morales, was able to climb the ladder of success. Meaning that Pac is the greatest because he was able to conquer fear, negativity, emotion, and the beatings he got. That means he is the greatest boxer who ever lived. Pacquiao is not in his prime and is a shot fighter as well, but out of his will to succeed he climb up in weights to defeat all the best in the business.
i think because cotto is the underdog he'll be alot more relaxed then pacquiao......pacquiaos got a lot of weight on his shoulders......he's expected to win and to win big.....he'll be the one with all the butterflies lol

While my heart goes to Pacquiao, I honestly believe that this is going to be a very exciting fight bec he is going to have a strong opposition in Cotto. I have confidence in Pac's ability but there is always a nagging concern behind my head of what the Boricoa Bomber could bring in this fight. For sure, Cotto will never ever under-estimate Pacquiao and so he will surely climb the ring doubly prepared than his previous (at least last two)fights. While the sudden firmness in Cotto's talk that he will not go home without winning this fight is maybe an indication that the Roach's psych war has gotten under him and he is just trying to fight it out, it may also indicate his sheer determination and heart to bring all he can just to win this fight. So I am also fighting within me this nagging concerns behind my back and I cant wait to find them out come fight night! Go Manny go go go!!!!

I find it funny that while Cotto is dead serious coming into the fight, Pacman is singing his way and having fun as fight night approaches, like he wouldn't be at war on Saturday, like he's preparing for a singing contest. Erik and JMM are two of the great Mexican warriors, they are both great counter puncher and good in lateral movement, if Cotto can copy their skills he may have a chance to win. considering that Cotto is not good counter puncher and lack of lateral movement, makes him an easy target...I think Manny will win by TKO in the later round.
