“Mighty Wings” will make their debut on McDonald’s menus in 500 restaurants this week, The Associated Press reported on Monday, Jan. 7.
A spokeswoman for McDonald’s confirmed the test in Chicago would start this week, but said there were not any plans yet to bring wings to other cities. The spokeswoman noted that no new sauces were being offered with the wings and that a creamy ranch sauce would be the default dipping sauce.
Chicken wings originated at the iconic Anchor Bar on Main Street in Buffalo, N.Y. Many come to Buffalo, N.Y. and head straight to The Anchor Bar for wings, Buffalo has many local bars and restaurants that serve great wings, including La Nova’s in the City of Buffalo, John’s on Delaware Avenue and T.C. Wheeler’s on Wheeler Street, both in Tonawanda. Many chicken wing aficionados would also recommend Duff’s chicken wings, chosen the best wings in Buffalo on a television show called “Food Wars,” when Duff’s wings were put up against chicken wings from The Anchor Bar.
Buffalo is also home to the National Chicken Wing Festival each year over the Labor Day weekend.
Buffalonians know that ranch dipping sauce will not cut it when it comes to chicken wings; it has to be real blue cheese dressing or nothing. Even truer, most Buffalonians do not dip chicken wings in blue cheese dressing, they dip celery and carrot sticks in the blue cheese dressing.
Local television station WIVB posed the question “Would you try them or would you stick to your WNY favorites?” Overwhelmingly, the answer to the question about trying “Mighty Wings” in Buffalo, NY was no. Many noted that the wing appears breaded, similar to a piece of fried chicken. Others said if the “Mighty Wings” are as bad as “McNuggets” they would take a pass.
