For the first time in a very long time, Seattle could have a UFC champion to call it's own.
We first told you about Mighty Mouse over a year ago when he made his nationwide debut with the now defunct WEC (which merged with the UFC). At that time he was a local talent getting his first of many big breaks. Now comes an opportunity of a lifetime.
Demetrious Johnson always knew that he could compete at the highest level of MMA. He has often spoke of his desire to become a full time fighter. Many people do not know that until very recently, he had a full time job while competing for the UFC. His hard work ethic allowed him to win 4 fights in a row and win the notice of the UFC brass, so much so that it was announced that DJ gets a shot at the UFC Bantamweight title October 1st on Versus. Now that a shot at UFC gold is at hand, DJ quit his job to become a full time fighter and focus on this very important task.
Johnson will continue to train at AMC in Kirkland and Pacific and actually teaches classes at the Pacific gym. Always approachable and with a smile on his face, Demetrious will get the one opportunity that many fighters dream of and never get: a chance to be the best in the world.
When he enters the cage on October 1st, he'll not only be representing himself and his gym, but MMA in the Pacific Northwest.
