Midwesterners fill up on Irish entertainment for St. Pat's

“Oscar Wilde said, ‘The Irish have an abiding sense of tragedy which sustains them through temporary periods of joy.’ And at the center of Chapatti, our new play by Galway playwright Christian O’Reilly, is the deep and aching sense of yearning; yearning for completion, of belonging, of the need to be wanted,” explains Artistic Director BJ Jones of Northlight Theatre’s new production which runs through April 13 on 9501 Skokie Boulevard in Skokie. “Anchoring this lovely poem of a play are longtime colleagues John Mahoney and Penny Slusher. Christian’s play is unusual in structure yet accessible in theme, a rueful chortle of a piece with a wink of a tearful eye.”

“This co-production between Northlight Theatre and Galway Arts Festival is the result of three successful Northlight transfer productions in the past five years to Ireland's most prestigious festival,” adds Tim Evans, Northlight's Executive Director. “Created by Irish and American artists, Chapatti initiates a new producing partnership allowing us both to present this unique play and potentially others in Chicago, Galway and beyond.” Tickets are available by calling 847-673-6300 or visiting
