On Saturday August 20, 2011, the Midwest Persian Tabby Fanciers (MPTF) will be gathering at the Allen Park Community Center for their 47th Allbreed and Household Pet Show. Six judges are scheduled to be working the show. The event opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 5:00 PM. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for children. Children under the age of 5 are admitted free.
This show is for cats of all kinds. MPTF is affiliated with the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) and, while most of the cats present will be purebreds, a significant number will be mixed-breeds: the kind of cat that might be gracing the back of your sofa as you read this. In fact, you can enter your cat in the show whether (s)he is a purebred or not.
If you're interested in having your cat judged in the show, here are some things you need to know:
If your cat is over eight months of age, (s)he must be spayed or neutered. The CFA and its associated clubs (including MPTF) support spaying/neutering as a humane way to control the number of unwanted or homeless pets.
Your cat cannot be declawed. The CFA disapproves of declawing.
The MPTF does not require that you bring proof that your cat has recently been examined by a veterinarian, but the club does strongly recommend that you have your cat vaccinated for feline enteritis, feline rhinotracheitis, calici viruses, and rabies before the show. The club also recommends testing for FeLV.
You can download a flier with more information here that will tell you who to contact and how to go about registering for the show. Here's a chance to share what makes your feline special with others who love cats as much as you do!
