Midwest Football Culture Has Something To Do With Steubenville Rape Case

Steubenville,Ohio-A town of just 18,000 people whose hopes and dreams are turned toward the prize-a local football team. The team known locally as "Big Red" has won 9 championships making their town proud. Recently thought residents of Steubenville have been both defensive and ashamed of their team.

It all began with the Internet and a series of pictures. A young 16 year old girl is being carried by her ankles and hands by two minors. In the video that was released earlier in the year a group of teens are sitting around laughing. They say things like "They raped her harder than that cop raped Marcellus Wallace in 'Pulp Fiction". Their laughing continues on and the video was a source of contention that brought the New York Times into the picture.

Do football star's get special treatment? The New York Times hinted at this when they reported back in December. There have been numerous cases where football stars get first pick on a lot of action. In this case the two football players Mia'lik Richmond and Trent Mays.

The video which has more than 100,000 hits has caused a huge stir. The parents of the boys say they are innocent.
