Some Illinoisans chose early voting for the 2014 midterm nominations. Others waited until Election Day on March 18. No matter the day, here are some of the notable highlights and voter activity results:

  • Out of 50 wards, Ward 34 had the most active voters with a total of 37,785.
  • All wards won the "yes" vote for a $15 minimum wage increase.
  • Other majority "yes" votes included banning guns in pubs* (144,636 to 53,848) and banning large gun clips** (149,879 to 46,479).
  • The vote for a taxi fare hike (the first increase in eight years to match other cities' fleets) was turned down with a higher "no" vote (120,847 to 76,159).
  • Pat Quinn and Paul Vallas beat out Tio Hardiman and Brunell Donald with approximately 79 percent of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor democratic votes.
  • Quinn's and Vallas' competitors to beat in the primary elections will be Republicans Bruce Rauner and Evelyn Sanguinetti.
  • Senator Dick Durbin will be competing against Douglas Lee Truax. Unlike Quinn, no democratic candidate ran against Durbin.
  • Jesse White, a four-time Secretary of State winner who earned over 2.5 million votes statewide in the 2010 election (more than any statewide constitutional candidate in over 34 years) will be competing in the primary election against Michael Webster.
  • Michael W. Frerichs will compete against Tom Cross as State of Illinois Treasurer.
