Summer is approaching and Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing is almost here! It will feature fantastic dance bands and soloists sure to get event attendees onto the dance floor moving and shaking. Midsummer Night Swing will be held at an open-air ballroom in Damrosch Park (West 62nd Street between Columbus & Amsterdam). Come on down on Tuesdays through Saturdays, June 24 - July 12. Midsummer Night Swing begins with the musical stylings of Jazz artist Cécile McLorin Salvant, critically acclaimed and well-loved by the Jazz community.
This is a momentous event for Salvant, who will front a dance band for the first time. The band will be backed by one of the country's classic swing dance experts, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, a unique connection created for Lincoln Center. The music will range from Ellington to Count Basie and Josephine Baker sprinkled in along the way.
Music will vary to include culturally diverse tunes from African soukous, semba, and kizomba to Cuban percussion from Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca, featuring salsa dura trombonist Jimmy Bosch. There will be a disco evening at The Loser's Lounge (featuring the catchy tunes of ABB) celebrating LGBT Pride Week.
Swing Jazz - New Orleans' style will be highlighted with The Hot Sardines. Grammy Award-winning Cajun superstars -The Band Courtbouillon has a debut performance in New York City on June 28th.
