Midnight Riders host FIFA 12 tournament to benefit Twellman's 'Think Taylor'

On November 8, the Midnight Riders will host a FIFA 12 tournament on Xbox 360 at Greatest Bar in Boston's North End to benefit Taylor Twellman's Think Taylor organization. A partner of Liberty Bay Credit Union, Think Taylor is a resource for education, support and fundraising to promote positive outcomes from sports-related brain injury.

Twellman, who retired from the New England Revolution and professional soccer in November 2010 after suffering multiple concussions, is expected to attend the tournament for the duration, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

In his illustrious career, Twellman scored 100 goals in a 174 games (101 total) and was the youngest player to hit that mark. He was MLS MVP in 2005, a two-time MLS Golden Boot winner, a five-time All-Star, an All-Star MVP, a two-time Best XI, a five-time MLS Player of the Week, a two-time MLS Goal of the Week, MLS Player of the Month, and winner of many New England Revolution team honors, including three-time MVP and five-time Golden Boot.

The FIFA 12 tournament

A maximum 32 participants will compete in the single elimination tournament. There will be food provided, prizes for the winners, and free t-shirts for all participants who pre-register. Revs players past and present are expected to make appearances.

Fran Harrington, the president of the Midnight Riders supporters group, said registration just opened but is already half full.

"This is our idea, we approached him," said Harrington. "We're also selling scarves with his image and name on it with the proceeds going towards his charity. We obviously wanted to help him in whatever way we could."

FIFA Tournament Player Registration    $30.00
FIFA Tournament Spectator preregistration ($2 off door admission)  $8.00
FIFA Tournament Spectator + T-Shirt    $20.00

The tournament is open to anyone 18 or older.

Donations made to Think Taylor will go to research advancement and help ensure every athlete affected receives the highest level of treatment regardless of their ability to pay.
